My headlight lenses were starting to show some oxidation, so I ordered Meguiar’s Ultimate Headlight Restoration Kit. I had used the Cerakote kit a few years back, and although they boast ‘guaranteed to last as long as you own your vehicle’ I don’t think the product lived up to the promise.

The kit was very easy to use. I grabbed a bucket of water, some blue painter’s tape, glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth. Included is a foam sanding block and two sanding disks, 1000 grit and 3000 grit. These fasten securely to the block by hook-and-loop. Before we get to sanding, we clean the lens thoroughly to remove any dirt and grease, and mask around the headlight to protect the paint.
The instructions are clear and guide you through wet-sanding first with 1000 grit in a horizontal pattern, then with the 3000 grit moving vertically along the lens. Use water liberally, and don’t panic as the lens becomes uniformly cloudy. Clean it again with your glass cleaner before you apply the clear coat ceramic.
One folded wipe is enough to treat both headlights, and as you can see, the result is sparkling clear. Directions say to let the restored headlights dry in shade for 24 hours. I’m very pleased with the result.
